Real hits have a wonderful power. They get right to the heart of a feeling or a desire. Let’s just take the heartbreaking “I can’t watch” that the waiter Leopold intones in the “Weißes Rössl” because he thinks the landlady Josepha has fallen in love with someone else. Everything is in there. Each of us has experienced it at some point, being rejected, not getting something. And when the envy rises, you think: "When I'm not there, my heart breaks in two!" And this hit is particularly beautiful because it is so ambiguous. Because Josepha actually loves her waiter, but he's gotten so jealous that nothing gets through to him anymore. So he almost destroys everything himself with his doubts. Luckily, things are very different in the “Weißes Rössl”. Somehow it always works

At least that's the morale of the “Weisses Rössl”, which puts stage jack-of-all-trades Sandy Lopicic on the stage in the Helmut List Halle. And in a jazzy, peppery arrangement by Reinhard Summerer, who brings the piece back to the Berlin of the Golden Twenties, when it was premiered.
